TWO Lake District bakeries have been closed temporarily as the company have refurbished their stores in the county.

Cornish Bakery has temporarily closed two of its popular Lake District locations - Keswick and Bowness-on-Windermere - whilst they complete refurbishment works on the properties.

The newly-refurbished Bowness-on-Windermere unit officially reopened today May 3, and the Keswick one will open a week later on Friday, May 10.

The Bowness-on-Windermere bakery is located right in the heart of Royal Square in the shadow of St Martin’s Church. Originally built in the 1800s, this building has housed many retailers since the 1920s and has been one of Cornish Bakery’s Lake District homes for over 10 years.

In 'keeping with the natural surroundings', the company repainted the exterior of the Bowness-on-Windermere bakery in Forest Green tones last year.

The Keswick bakery is located on the Main Street in the centre of the town. Formerly a building society and bank, it has been a Cornish Bakery location for over seven years. To give the area a new pop of colour, the company repainted this bakery in ‘Middle Bluff’ deep bronze colour last year.

The refurbed bakeries will be adorned with lights from Cornwall-based Studio Haran alongside paintings and illustrations from South West-based artists Sophie Harding and William Luz.

Cornish Bakery founder and owner, Steve Grocutt said: “Over time, our brand, and therefore the internal and external styling of our bakeries, have changed significantly.

"Our product range has evolved into a more fulsome bakery experience and coffee has become our best seller. We absolutely love our Lake District locations which are all strong performers within our ever-growing family of bakeries.”

“I am confident that these updated bakeries will be the premium space and experience for both residents in, and visitors to, the beautiful lakeside towns of Keswick and Bowness-on-Windermere.

"Bakery is the new coffee shop, and we are at the forefront of this. We’re looking forward to welcoming customers, new and old, into our revamped Lake District bakeries.”
