Bowness-on-Windermere is soon to be home to The Botanical Kitchen, a new plant-based café.

The café, nestled at 4 St Martin’s Parade, will offer a 'creative' plant-based menu, taking over the location previously occupied by the Ubuntu Café Bar.

This new eatery is the brainchild of Debbie Scott, an IT professional and trained chef, who acquired the property in March.

The deal was orchestrated by the business transfer specialist, Blacks Business Brokers.

The café has undergone a transformation, featuring a lush botanical-themed décor, ready to greet its first customers when doors open on May 1.

Supporting Ms Scott are three staff members, including two former Ubuntu employees.

Anticipating a bustling summer, she is in the process of recruiting more personnel.

Ms Scott is no stranger to the culinary world, having established W R Udderly Nuts, a producer and online supplier of plant-based cheeses and condiments, during the lockdown.

Having moved from Berwick-upon-Tweed to the Lake District last year, Ms Scott embarked on a quest to alter common misperceptions about vegan food by establishing a café.

She plans to stir things up by integrating We R Udderly Nuts’ cheeses into vegan charcuterie platters at The Botanical Kitchen.

Ms Scott said: "These premises are in a perfect location, close to the promenade and lake cruise jetties, and I would like to thank Blacks for making the process of taking over the lease so straightforward.

"Now that all the preparations are complete, I can’t wait to welcome Bowness’s residents and visitors to The Botanical Kitchen and demonstrate just how delicious and interesting plant-based food can be."

Amy Page, customer service executive at Bury-headquartered Blacks Business Brokers, said: "I am thrilled to have been able to help Debbie find the perfect premises for her business.

"The new décor looks amazing, and I’m sure the food will match.

"I am also really pleased for our client, the seller, who can now move on with her plans for the future.

"It took less than two months from us listing the business for sale to Debbie completing the purchase, so it really has been a brilliant result for everyone."
